Major Tether investor’s donations to UK party pushing pro-crypto policies reach $16 million

Christopher Harborne, a major investor holding an estimated 12% stake in Tether, has significantly increased his financial support for the UK political party Reform UK, which champions pro-cryptocurrency policies. His total contributions, revealed through Electoral Commission filings, amount to approximately £12 million (around $16 million), including a recent £3 million donation. Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, has made digital assets central to its economic platform, proposing to cut capital gains taxes on cryptocurrency to 10% and positioning the UK as a "premier hub" for digital assets. The party was also the first in the UK to accept crypto donations, a move that has drawn scrutiny from some lawmakers concerned about obscured funding origins and potential foreign interference. This political activity occurs while UK regulators work on a broader digital asset framework, with industry figures warning that overly restrictive rules could harm London's competitiveness.
