Hut 8 Commits $16M to Louisiana AI Data Center Infrastructure

Bitcoin miner Hut 8 has committed $16 million to enhance the water infrastructure in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, as part of the development of its River Bend AI data center campus. This investment will fund a new water well, approximately eight miles of water main, and other system upgrades, with the assets to be transferred to the parish upon completion in the latter half of 2026 at no cost to taxpayers. The River Bend campus, representing a multibillion-dollar capital investment, is designed to support around 1,000 construction jobs at its peak and at least 75 permanent positions once operational. The facility will utilize a closed-loop cooling system to minimize water consumption and draw from sources other than residential aquifers. This project is part of Hut 8's broader North American energy and digital infrastructure strategy. Despite recent quarterly losses, Hut 8's shares have seen significant gains this year, driven by investor interest in its AI infrastructure and power leasing business. The company has secured substantial long-term leases for AI data center capacity, including a $7 billion deal for 245 MW at the River Bend campus and a $9.8 billion deal for 352 MW at its Texas campus, totaling $16.8 billion in contracted revenue.
