Ethereum Hits 200M Gas Target Ahead Of Glamsterdam Upgrade
Summary
The Ethereum Foundation has announced significant progress towards the "Glamsterdam" upgrade, successfully reaching a "credible post-Glamsterdam target" of a 200 million gas limit. This substantial increase from the current 60 million gas limit is expected to significantly boost the network's speed post-upgrade. The Glamsterdam upgrade, now anticipated in the third quarter of 2026, aims to scale Ethereum's layer-1 by optimizing transaction processing and database management, fundamentally altering block creation and verification. The Foundation is also preparing for the "Hegotà" upgrade and advancing its quantum-ready "Strawmap." Key technical achievements include the stabilization of enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS), which integrates block-building outsourcing directly into Ethereum's protocol for enhanced security and efficiency, and the finalization of EIP-8037, which introduces smarter data storage pricing to manage state growth under higher gas limits. In parallel, the Ethereum Foundation has initiated a leadership transition for its Protocol cluster, welcoming Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and Fredrik as new leads, while Barnabé Monnot, Tim Beiko, and Alex Stokes transition from their roles.
