Woman Who Claimed Bitcoin Riches to Befriend Elderly Victims Sentenced to Prison
Summary
Sze Man Yu Inos, also known as Yuki, has been sentenced to 71 months in federal prison for orchestrating a wire fraud scheme that targeted elderly women. Between November 2020 and January 2022, Inos, 30, posed as a wealthy Chinese heiress and successful Bitcoin investor to gain the trust of victims in Saipan and Guam. She treated them to expensive meals and gifts, bragged about her Bitcoin profits, and confided in them about fictitious personal problems, even telling them, "You are like my mom." After building trust, she solicited money and investments in Bitcoin based on false pretenses. The scheme extended to new victims in Washington and California after she left the Marianas. Inos was found guilty of wire fraud and also ordered to pay restitution of $769,355.67, undergo three years of supervised release, complete 100 hours of community service, and pay a $200 special assessment. A criminal forfeiture judgment of $684,848.34 was also imposed. This case highlights the growing trend of crypto scams, with Americans aged 60 and older accounting for a significant portion of the $11.4 billion lost to cryptocurrency fraud in 2025.
