Layer 1 network ZetaChain has halted its cross-chain transactions on the mainnet due to an identified attack on its GatewayEVM smart contract. This contract acts as a unified entry point for cross-chain interactions. The incident primarily affected internal ZetaChain team wallets, and the team has since mitigated the attack vector. While the team has not disclosed the exact amount lost, DefiLlama data indicates approximately $300,000 was lost. ZetaChain stated that no user funds were impacted and that a detailed post-mortem will be released. The network's cross-chain transactions remained paused for several hours after the attack was identified. This event occurs amidst a broader trend of DeFi exploits, including a recent $292 million exploit of the Kelp DAO bridge.
