Bitcoin's Quantum Migration May Reveal Number of Satoshi Coins: Adam Back

Blockstream CEO Adam Back stated at Paris Blockchain Week that a future migration to post-quantum Bitcoin address formats could provide clarity on Satoshi Nakamoto’s actual holdings. As owners move assets to new, quantum-resistant formats to secure them, coins that remain unmoved could reasonably be considered lost. While estimates suggest Satoshi holds between 500,000 and 1.09 million Bitcoin, this transition would offer empirical evidence of the founder's stash. Back emphasized that there is no immediate rush, noting that a quantum threat capable of breaking current encryption is likely two decades away, providing developers time to implement hash-based signature schemes.
