Wells Fargo files ‘WFUSD’ trademark covering crypto trading, payments and tokenization services
Summary
Wells Fargo & Company has filed a trademark application for “WFUSD” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, covering downloadable software for digital asset trading, cryptocurrency exchange services, and software-as-a-service for tokenizing assets. The trademark resembles ticker symbols for U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins and references software for stablecoin transactions. This move follows previous investments in blockchain analytics firm Elliptic and crypto trading infrastructure firm Talos, and aligns with the Wells Fargo Investment Institute’s recent assessment of digital assets as a viable investment. The bank reported a net income of $5.36 billion for the fourth quarter of 2025.
