AirTrunk secured a record $1.24 billion green loan to expand its TOK1 data center campus in Tokyo.

Summary

Hyperscale data center operator AirTrunk, owned by a consortium led by Blackstone, has secured a 191.6 billion Japanese yen ($1.24 billion) green loan to refinance and expand its TOK1 data center campus in the greater Tokyo area. This financing is described as the largest data center loan completed in Japan and will support the TOK1 campus's scaling beyond 300 megawatts (MW) of capacity to meet rising demand for cloud services and AI infrastructure.

The financing was arranged by a consortium of 12 banks, led by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), MUFG, Crédit Agricole CIB, and Société Générale. AirTrunk is already adding over 100 MW of IT load at the facility to address near-term demand. The loan was issued under AirTrunk’s Green Financing Framework, mandating strict energy efficiency standards.

AirTrunk's total investment in Japan now exceeds $8 billion, with plans for a second campus in Osaka. Once fully built, AirTrunk’s four Japanese campuses are expected to deliver around 530 MW of combined capacity.
