Blockchain.com expands operations to Ghana in push for African growth

Blockchain.com has officially expanded its operations into Ghana as part of its strategy to deepen its presence in Africa, following significant success in Nigeria where it saw over 700% growth in brokerage transaction volume since launching there early last year. Owen Odia, general manager of Africa at Blockchain.com, stated that the company is building local infrastructure and region-specific products to make financial services globally accessible. The firm noted significant organic growth in Ghana prior to the formal launch, including a 140% increase in active users and an 80% rise in transaction volume over the past year. Blockchain.com plans further expansion across Africa, focusing on opportunities in stablecoins and digital assets to improve cross-border settlement and reduce remittance costs. This African push aligns with the company's broader global expansion, which recently included securing FCA registration in the UK and an EU MiCA license.
