US Court Dismisses Binance, CZ Terrorism Financing Lawsuit

A US District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed a lawsuit brought by hundreds of victims and relatives alleging that Binance, former CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, and BAM Trading Services aided terrorist groups like Hamas and ISIS by allowing funds to move through cryptocurrency transactions. Judge Jeannette A. Vargas dismissed the case at the pleading stage because the plaintiffs failed to establish a sufficient, plausible link between Binance’s operations and the specific terrorist attacks that caused their injuries. Following the ruling, CZ stated on X that centralized exchanges have "zero motive" to assist terrorists, arguing that such actors generate minimal trading revenue. This legal victory comes as Binance faces separate scrutiny over allegations of facilitating transactions linked to sanctioned Iranian entities, which the exchange has strongly denied as relying on false reports.
