Strike wins New York BitLicense, clearing path for bitcoin financial services rollout
Summary
Strike has successfully obtained a BitLicense and money transmitter license from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), allowing the bitcoin financial services firm to operate in New York. Founder and CEO Jack Mallers stated this is a "defining milestone" for Strike, enabling them to bring their mission to the global financial center. The approval permits Strike to offer services including buying and selling bitcoin, salary deposits converted to bitcoin, and bill payments from a bitcoin balance to individuals and businesses. The company can also provide recurring purchases and price-triggered trade orders. Furthermore, users can convert up to 100% of direct-deposited wages into bitcoin with waived fees on deposits up to $20,000 monthly. Strike emphasized that customer bitcoin and cash balances are held one-to-one and are not lent out. This license subjects Strike to NYDFS supervision, including audits, capital reserve rules, and cybersecurity examinations.
