Vitalik Buterin calls for bolder experimentation in Ethereum’s app layer while preserving core principles

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin encouraged developers to adopt a more experimental mindset on the application layer of the network, provided they preserve core principles he termed "CROPS": censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy, and security. While advocating for radical rethinking of decentralized application design, Buterin stressed that these foundational properties must not be compromised. Specific areas for innovation include treating privacy as a first-class feature, evolving DeFi toward generalized financial infrastructure resembling universal futures markets, and exploring new oracle designs integrating LLMs. He also suggested that AI integration could fluidly change user interaction with blockchain apps, potentially reducing reliance on traditional wallets. Furthermore, Buterin cautioned against cultural conformity, encouraging creativity over excessive focus on "respectability," and stressed that Layer 2 networks must genuinely add to core infrastructure.
