Cardano Gets Real-World Checkout Rails in 137 Swiss Spar Stores

Cardano (ADA) users can now purchase groceries at 137 Spar supermarkets throughout Switzerland, following the integration of Open Crypto Pay by the fintech firm DFX.swiss. This system facilitates real-time transactions directly from ADA wallets, bypassing centralized exchanges, and offers merchants significant cost reductions—about two-thirds lower than traditional card fees. Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, hailed this as the start of a fundamental shift toward genuine financial transformation. Spar had previously introduced crypto payments in August 2025 across 100 stores using Binance Pay and DFX.swiss, with intentions to expand further. This development supports Switzerland's ambition to become a global crypto hub, paralleling efforts in Lugano, which recently committed $6.4 million to further embed digital assets into its local economy.
