Ethereum news (ETH): Foundation wants the network to be the trust layer for AI

The Ethereum Foundation (EF), through its AI lead Davide Crapis, is positioning the Ethereum network not for raw AI computation, but as a crucial coordination and verification layer for an increasingly AI-mediated world. The core motivation is philosophical: to prevent the erosion of crypto values like decentralization and self-sovereignty if AI systems become entirely centralized. The EF's strategy focuses on two areas: decentralized AI coordination, where Ethereum provides infrastructure for autonomous AI agents to identify themselves, build trust, and exchange payments (like a decentralized Google Reviews with payment rails, supported by standards like ERC-8004); and embedding core Ethereum principles like privacy and censorship resistance into AI. By encouraging local processing and using cryptographic keys anchored on Ethereum, the EF seeks to ensure users retain control over their data and identity, framing Ethereum as the ultimate verifiable security anchor, or "the big lock," against AI-orchestrated threats.
