Marc Zeller’s ACI to leave Aave in July amid growing governance tensions

The Aave Chan Initiative (ACI) announced it will leave the Aave DAO by July, following a similar decision by BGD Labs, citing growing governance tensions within the Aave ecosystem. ACI founder Marc Zeller attributes the decision to BGD Labs’ departure and concerns over the concentration of voting power within Aave Labs, which he believes allows them to pass proposals despite community opposition. The dispute originated from questions about fee routing and has evolved into a broader debate about transparency, accountability, and control of Aave’s assets. ACI is also seeking to cancel its GHO stablecoin funding stream early to ensure a smooth transition and avoid reliance on a potentially biased governance process. Zeller expressed hope for a graceful wind-down but warned that ACI would cease activity if its proposal is rejected, signaling a lack of commitment to honoring existing agreements.
