Vitalik: Ethereum Smart Accounts Coming in Hegota Fork

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced that account abstraction, or smart accounts, will be implemented with the Hegota upgrade, slated for deployment within a year. This is possible due to EIP-8141, which resolves all remaining issues for account abstraction. Smart accounts will use "frame transactions," allowing a transaction to be a sequence of frames that can reference each other and signal authorization or gas payment. This enables features like multi-signatures and paying gas in non-ETH tokens via a "paymaster contract," aligning with Ethereum's principle of intermediary minimization. Buterin noted this is also a significant benefit for privacy protocols, allowing them to replace public broadcasters with a general-purpose public mempool. All existing Ethereum accounts can eventually be integrated into this framework to gain batch operations and transaction sponsorship capabilities.
