Senate Democrats urge AG Bondi and Treasury Sec. Bessent to probe Binance amid sanctions concerns

A group of Senate Democrats, led by Senator Chris Van Hollen, sent a letter urging U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to conduct a comprehensive review of Binance's sanctions compliance. This action follows recent reports alleging that Binance partners acted as intermediaries for money laundering and facilitated trade with Iranian government entities, potentially violating U.S. sanctions laws. The senators expressed concern that these reports question Binance's adherence to promises made after the exchange pleaded guilty over two years ago to sanctions breaches and paid over $4 billion in penalties. The letter requested a response by March 13, mirroring similar concerns raised earlier by Senator Richard Blumenthal to Binance CEO Richard Teng.
